Derived from old vines in the commune of Brochon, Trapet's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea offers up aromas of cherries, raw cocoa and coniferous forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, it's deeper and more introverted-and more of a long-haul prospect-than the domaine's immensely charming regular Gevrey, with a layered core and a long, mineral finish.

Offering up lovely aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, orange rind, raw cocoa and spices, the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet is medium to full-bodied, bright and mineral, with a firmer, more tightly wound profile than the gourmand, enveloping Clos des Angles, concluding with a saline finish. It's a touch more refined and ethereal than the 2018, but like that wine, it's built to age.

The 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Combes Dessus unwinds in the glass with lovely aromas of red berries, dark chocolate, rich soil tones and orange rind. Medium-bodied, bright and tangy, its lively core of fruit is framed by refined tannins and segues into a saline, mouthwatering finish,

The 2016 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens was broody and a little introverted on the nose, probably due to be racked sooner than some of the more expressive Volnays. The palate is crisp and taut with cranberry and redcurrant fruit, a good backbone with a nicely poised, quite feminine (for a Pommard) finish that gently caresses. This is a delightful Pommard Rugiens that should give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is very promising, mingling notes of cherries and berries with sweet soil tones and hints of rose petals and spices in an incipiently complex bouquet. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and elegant, with fine depth at the core, ripe and refined tannins and a penetrating finish.

Revisited from bottle, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village bursts with aromas of plums and sweet berry fruit, complemented by notions of loamy soil, espresso roast and smoked meats. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent, with melting tannins framing its fleshy core of fruit.

The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets is also showing very well, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of dark berries, raw cocoa, orange rind, forest floor and dried flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, having come together beautifully since I tasted it from barrel, framed by juicy acids and fine, stony tannins. It's a superb wine that confirms the serious stature of this vintage chez d'Angerville.
