The latest rendition of Clicquot's emblematic NV Brut Yellow Label contains around 35% reserve wines—mostly from the last five vintages—and was finished with 10 grams per liter dosage. Offering up aromas of warm bread, peach, citrus oil and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a sweet core of fruit marked by a touch of sweetness from its dosage, concluding with a clean, nicely defined finish. Almost 20 million bottles are produced every year.
Honestly, I have never tasted better Champagnes from Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin than I did in March this year. The cuvées were as fresh as they were complex, and I left the company with a sense of wonder. If only they could export their perfect storing capacities! La Grande Dame is the star, but it won't do you any harm taste or re-taste one of the 13.5 million bottles of the Yellow Label. I was also impressed by the white Vintage Brut 2008.
