A blend dominated by Chardonnay, the NV Shaman Rose 17 was disgorged in
March 2020. Offering up aromas of sweet berries, spices, orange and
dried flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and charming, with
bright acids, chalky structure and a pinpoint mousse, concluding with a
saline finish. As readers will remember, the "17" denotes the base
vintage, which is complemented by reserve wines from a solera
established in 2010.

Disgorged in February 2019 without dosage, the 2014 Ambonnay Grand Cru Les Saints Remys soars from the glass with a lovely bouquet of yellow orchard fruit, pear, chamomile, mint and honeycomb. Full-bodied, enveloping and textural, with considerable palate presence and notable dry extract, it's racy and incisive, concluding with an invigoratingly saline finish. Produced from a parcel of old-vine Pinot Noir on the Bouzy side of Ambonnay, this is another brilliant wine from Benoit Marguet.

Disgorged in May 2019, the 2014 Trepail Premier Cru is produced with
Chardonnay purchased from David Leclapart?which Marguet tells me are the
most expensive grapes in Champagne. It's more austere and introverted
than the Avize & Cramant bottling that preceded it in our tasting,
its bouquet of waxy orchard fruit and orange rind inflected with hints
of wet stones and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, chalky and
incisive and complemented by a fine mousse, Marguet describes it as
"nordic," a characterization with which I can only agree.
