Bursting from the glass with a youthful but already expressive bouquet of dark berries, cassis, smoked meats and spices, the 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a supple, open-knit core of succulent and delicately sun-kissed fruit, framed by ripe acids and melting tannins. This is a charming, satiny-textured Mazis that's going to offer a broad drinking window. What's more, I suspect that its early accessibility belies the fact that it will gain in depth and weight with some bottle age.

The 2016 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is also showing superbly, offering up aromas of cassis, grilled meats, pungent spices and a savory bass-note reminiscent of oyster sauce. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with velvety structuring tannins, succulent acids and a long, expansive finish. It isn't quite as multidimensional or complete as this year's spectacular Ouvrées Rodin bottling, but it's a very fine Clos de Bèze.

Continuing this site's hot streak, the 2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with notions of wild berries, peonies, exotic spices, sweet soil tones, espresso roast and bergamot. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with lively acids and a layered, vibrant core of fruit, concluding with a chalky finish.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, dark chocolate, spices and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's elegantly muscular, with a deep and multidimensional core and a long, expansive finish. It's worth a special effort to seek out.
