The 2018 Haus Klosterberg Pinot Noir opens pure, fresh and intense on the spicy/slatey nose, with floral-scented cherry and dark berry aromas as well as flinty notes and initially even white blossom hints. Silky, fresh and elegant on the palate, with lovely stimulating grip, this is a pure, light to medium-bodied, juicy, crystalline and vibrantly fresh Pinot of stunning finesse, remarkable intensity and stylistic quality at this price point (14.80 euros ex-cellar). The Haus Klosterberg Estate Pinot is one of Molitor’s fastest-selling wines—so much so that I have often been unable to taste the wine because every last bottle of it would be sold when I would taste the newest collection. Tasted from AP 131 20 in May 2021.

The 2021 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) offers a very clear and intense, savory, pure and elegant nose of concentrated fruits, including lemon and grapefruit aromas, intertwined with finely flinty notes of crushed slate. Round, lush and generous but also highly delicate and irresistibly savory on the palate, this is a balanced Auslese that is not as lively, bright and saline on the finish as the Wehlener, but it is more textured, richer and possibly also deeper. 7.5% stated alcohol. On the palate, this is a round and mouth-filling, crystalline and very elegant Würzgarten with a very long, stimulating saline and crunchy, thus almost dry-tasting finish. It has a beautiful slate character and stimulating tension and is mouth-watering. A great wine. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023.

Molitor's 2020 Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett (Green Capsule) is super clear, bright and intense on the utterly slatey, herbal and very delicate, even iodine and, with enough aeration, spectacular nose. Lush and round on the textured palate, this is an intense and juicy but most of all saline Kabinett that lifts everything and leads to an almost dry-tasting yet fruity and juicy finish. There is great precision and piquancy here; think of candied lime rind or maybe a mojito. This is an irresistible Kabinett from the Himmelreich in Graach and is one of the best in its category again. 9% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

The citrus-colored 2018 Riesling Wehlener Klosterberg Beerenauslese is clear and concentrated on the precise and lemon-fresh nose that represents a first-class, early botrytis with remarkable precision. Dense yet clear and piquant on the palate, with great purity, finesse and lingering salinity, this is a brilliant, highly finessed Beerenauslese whose sweetness is cut by minerals and this crystalline and salty acidity of the coolish Klosterberg. Highly stimulating in its clarity, piquancy and linear elegance. Sold in 375-milliliter bottles.

The 2020 Pinot Blanc Wehlener Klosterberg *** is precise and flinty on the deep, pure, intense and concentrated, for the moment wonderfully aromatic, even fruity bouquet with noble sur lie and very fine, imbedded oak aromas. Great definition here. On the palate, this is a very concentrated, rich and powerful, highly elegant and enormously salty Pinot Blanc with very fine tannins and great intensity. The acidity is ripe but also concentrated and cuts through this slightly cloudy sample like a search light through fog. The finish is very intense and long. Aged in noble Burgundy barrels for 18 months, the 2020 is going to be bottled in August this year and will need 6–10 years to become the show stopper the wine already pretends to be. Definitely a wine to pre-order. Release date: unknown. Tasted as a still-to-be-filtered sample in July 2022.

The yellow-golden 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese ** (Golden Capsule) is brilliantly clear yet also intense and concentrated on the pure, fresh, finely raisined and herbal (rosemary), slightly honeyed nose that is complex and ambitious. Dense and juicy, with a vivacious purity and great finesse, this is a concentrated, vibrantly fresh and tightly structured Auslese with a remarkably digestible finish. There might be some percentage of botrytis that gives this Auslese a lush texture that is otherwise terribly clear and vital. I’d keep it for at least 7 years and up to 40, if only I could. Attention, though, the wine has serious acidity. Tasted from AP 39 20 in May 2021.
