From predominantly ungrafted vines that are up to 70+ years old and on gray slate, the Pündericher 2018 Marienburg Riesling Raffes did not ferment to fully dry but still reached 13.5% alcohol. Pure, fine and ripe on the flinty and elegant nose, this is a full-bodied, rich and powerful yet finessed, quiet, pure and perfectly interwoven Raffes with a certain sweetness that will become better integrated during the years of bottle aging. Very sustainable finish. A great Riesling again from Clemens and Rita Busch! Tasted from AP 0420 in July 2020.

The 2018 Marienburg Felsterrasse did not ferment to legally dry but still reached 13% alcohol. The bouquet is deep, intense and flinty yet refined and elegant, with ripe fruit aromas intermixed with delicate slate notes. Round and intense yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, almost oily-textured yet pure, vital and finessed Riesling in the dry style. The 2018 is dense, intense and long, very complex, well-balanced and vibrantly fresh for this abnormally warm and dry vintage. Slightly bitter on the aftertaste. 13% alcohol. Tasted from AP 0320 in July 2020.

The golden-yellow colored 2018 Marienburg GG Rothenpfad is pure, fresh and complex yet delicate on the elegant and subtle nose where perfectly ripe and healthy Riesling aromas intermix with herbal and stony notes. Silky, vital and nervously mineral on the palate, this is a rich and intense yet finessed and tensioned, not fully dry but juicy and warming Riesling with generosity, finesse and stimulating salinity on the crystalline and persistently aromatics finish. An impressive dry Riesling, it's already digestible yet can be cellared for at least 12 years. 13% alcohol. Tasted from AP 3319 in July 2020.

The 2017 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling GG Falkenlay is pure but generously ripe and bright, with matured and super matured apple aromas that are perfectly intertwined with notes of crushed or even milled stones. Full-bodied, intense and generous on the palate, this is a rich and powerful but silky-textured and highly refined Riesling with lots of extract and intensity but also elegance. The finish is dense and compact, with fine tannins intermingled with refreshing minerals that give grip and tension. This is a great GG and most likely the finest I have tasted from Clemens Busch in 20 years. Tasted in March 2019.

Picked at about 96° Oechsle along with the "Vom blauen Schiefer,"
which is sourced in the same plot, the 2016 Pundericher Marienburg
Riesling GG "Fahrlay" is ripe and intense on the nose, intermixing
herbal and slatey aromas with super ripe and concentrated Riesling notes.
On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and mouth-filling Riesling
with power, salt, grip, great tension and firm tannins. This has finely
grained minerality and ripe, concentrated fruit. It's almost too opulent,
but the mineral structure provides vibrating vitality and tension. The
2016 is far too young to drink today, but its aging potential should be
huge. The acidity is fine and lively, but it is the overall structure
and minerality that give this elegant and concentrated Riesling its
expressive length. Tasted February 2018.
