The ungrafted Bobal 2023 P.F. has complexity, elegance and power together with drinkability. It was produced with grapes from 90-year-old vines on sandy soils and fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 4,500-liter oak vats, where the wine matured for 10 months. This balanced and precise vintage has contained ripeness and alcohol (13%), a pH of 3.6 and 5.7 grams of acidity. This is a wine Ponce has to be very careful with because it can have too much power, the clusters are small and can give concentration and clout. They want to keep the balance, freshness and drinkability throughout its life. The wine is phenomenal and has great precision, plus there's seriousness and complexity, and it's balsamic; you feel the landscape, the Mediterranean herbs, thyme, rosemary and lavender; and it's spicy and has the energy and power with the silkiness of the sandy soils. It has big bones and complexity and is characterful and original. Very harmonious. A steal. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2024. A bottle of the 2005, the first vintage, had intense notes of black olives and tapenade and felt very Rhône-ish, very balsamic, with aromas of Mediterranean herbs.

The 2023 Clos Lojen is even more of a bargain than in previous years, as the price is the same and the quality is even higher!! It started being produced with 40-year-old vines, but those are by now 60 years old (I saw some of them, and they were REALLY impressive!); so, there's more depth and complexity; the vines are wiser (they've been tended nicely...) and manage to keep the freshness and approachability. They started harvesting the last week of August, and the result was 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.65 and 5.4 grams of acidity. The full clusters fermented in 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in foudres of different sizes—4,500, 10,000 and 15,000 liters—and lasted six months. The wine is fruit-driven, juicy, complex and spicy, balanced and tasty, textured and with a chalky feeling. This is way beyond what the price might suggest. 52,000 bottles produced in 2023. It was bottled between April and June 2024.

The one Monastrell produced here is the 2022 Depaula, which he was able to bottle at 12.3% alcohol, a rarity for the grape, while keeping richness and mouthfeel. It has a fresh Mediterranean nose of aromatic herbs and fine, elegant fruit, with a sensation of more ripeness than what the alcohol level points at. In fact, the problem here is that Monastrell doesn't ripen if you don't work well in the vineyard, pruning short to control yields, and they have been improving the viticulture since they bought the vineyard. This is fresher and more floral Monastrell, with a balsamic twist and a juicy palate with deep flavors, with backbone and support. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 4,500-liter oak vats, where it matured for seven months. This is now certified organic. 17,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023.

The 2022 P.F. has the depth and seriousness of the ungrafted vines and the balance of what they consider a great vintage for them. It has 13.5% alcohol, and it's juicy and has round tannins after fermenting and maturing in 4,500-liter oak vats for 10 months. It feels super balanced, serious, with depth and complexity, subtle, nicely integrated, fine-boned and balanced. This feels more harmonious, more than most of the rest of 2022s. It's tasty, subtle and elegant. These last few vintages are a lot more elegant and less rustic than the wines were in the past, and the tannins are fine-grained and round. 18,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.
