Tremblay has once again outdone herself with the 2022 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, a brilliant wine in the making that unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries and cherries mingled with exotic spices, peonies, blood orange and licorice discreetly framed by new oak. Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, this vibrant, seamless wine is, as usual, one of the least evolved in the cellar, emphasizing length, whereas the Echézeaux emphasizes breadth. It concludes with a long, resonant finish.

2013 is a cool, late-ripening vintage in Champagne, defined by an October harvest in cool but sunny conditions. With a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter, the 2013 Brut Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil possesses a complex, fruity bouquet mingling aromas of orchard fruit with notions of lemon oil, exotic fruits, spring flowers, almond and hints of menthol and buttery pastry. Full-bodied, rich and dense, with lively acids, it’s more complex and incisive than the 2002 and exhibits similar power to the 2012 at this early stage. Despite what was a challenging growing season for some producers, this is a superb Salon with a long, resonant finish.

In 2021, Tremblay had to blend her Beaux Monts and Rouges Dessus together to produce just two barrels, but the 2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru is quite different in its origins, deriving instead from the Tremblay family holdings in Beaux Monts that she regained control of this year and began farming for the first time. The resulting wine is fleshy and giving, with a more supple, open-knit profile than her long-time domaine parcel produced, so she elected to bottle it separately, without the lieu-dit.

The 2017 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is also showing very well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of sweet red berries, plums and cassis, complemented by sweet soil tones and lifted top notes of orange rind and peonies. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's deep and concentrated, its velvety tannins and succulent acids cloaked in an ample core of fruit. This is a brilliant wine from Domaine Ponsot.

The superb 2016 Clos de Tart Grand Cru confirms the promise it showed from barrel, unfurling in the glass with a striking bouquet of raspberries, rose petals, blood orange, black tea, spices and smoked meats. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, pure and ample, with a deep core of vibrant, searingly intense fruit that entirely cloaks its structuring chassis of satiny tannin, concluding with a long and captivatingly floral finish. More elegant and transparent than the richer and fleshier 2015, this is an exceptional vintage for Clos de Tart. That there are fully 27,000 bottles makes this one of Burgundy's rare confluence of quality and quantity.

Pure and perfumed, the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cabottes exhibits notes of raspberries, peonies, orange rind and sweet spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pure and vibrant palate, its enveloping core of cool, succulent fruit framed by melting tannins, concluding with a saline finish.

Luca Currado farms in the Brunate cru on the La Morra side of the vineyard (as opposed to the Barolo side), and this wine includes fruit from new parcels. The differences are subtle to be sure, but I always associate La Morra with an extreme silkiness and softness. I find those qualities apply to this wine. The Vietti 2016 Barolo Brunate shows blue flowers, forest fruit, wild cherry and truffle-infused earth. It reveals a lean but open-knit quality that you sense in the mouth. That softness, or textural silkiness, continues for many long minutes with hints of mint, licorice and camphor ash doled out carefully along the way. The tannins are polished and long. This is an extremely elegant Brunate.

The 2022 Bourgogne C?te d'Or offers up lovely aromas of red cherries, wild berries and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit and sweet, melting tannins, it's especially charming this year.

In the June 9, 2022 issue of The Wine Advocate, I devoted an extensive article to C?cile Tremblay's Chapelle-Chambertin?and her domaine's past, present and future?so readers looking for more depth are directed there. The 2022 vintage, reviewed here, marks a point of departure for Tremblay, as she regained control over appreciable additional holdings in Beaux Monts and Morey-Saint-Denis Tr?s Girard?family vineyards which had been leased out in a sharecropping agreement to another grower. That necessitated an extended winery and cellar, and Tremblay took the opportunity to add a cold room to facilitate the reception of fruit in warm conditions, a more and more common occurrence on the C?te d'Or. It's testimony to her exacting standards that she's elected to bottle her new Beaux Monts separately as a generic Vosne-Roman?e premier cru, since she felt they didn't have the cut and energy of the wine produced from her historic parcel.

The 2020 Bourgogne Cote d'Or is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with hints of petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and fleshy, it's a deep, lively wine with promising structure and back-end grip to sustain bottle age. As I've written before, this cuvee corresponds with the bottling formerly known as "La Croix Blanche," and it derives from well-situated parcels in the communes of Vosne-Romanee and Chambolle-Musigny.
