2020 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru "La Fussière"
91-93 points Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2020 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge, which contains slightly less whole bunch than the Village, has a more austere, well-defined, stony bouquet featuring dark berry fruit and touches of black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit and slightly granular in texture, leading to a cohesive, sustained finish. Very classy, and I reckon this should be quite approachable thanks to its pliancy. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2022)
89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound
Outer quote mark A deft application of wood surrounds the notably ripe aromas of dark pinot fruit, cassis and cherry liqueur. The sleek, delicious and intense medium-bodied flavors possess very good volume as well as fine depth and persistence on the sneaky long, firm and balanced finish. This youthfully austere effort is also going to need at least a few years of patience first. Inner quote mark (4/2022)
89-92pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "One third whole bunch, ie one of three tanks was 100%. The Bachelet boys have an additional hectare in Fussière from 2020, exceptionally well placed. Almost black in the centre. Black cherry, very powerful indeed with some firm tannins and still very good acidity. Sterner and weightier, not for the ethereal minded. The wine had not yet been adjusted for sulphur and a second sample was fresher, though along similar lines. Tasted: December 2021."
Allen Meadows - Burghound
Outer quote mark Ripe aromas consist mostly of plum, dark cherry and earth where the latter is picked up by the vibrant and fresh middle weight flavors that possess a moderately rustic if lengthy finale that is sufficiently firm to suggest that this frank effort should reward at least a few years of cellaring. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!* Inner quote mark (4/2022)
Vinous
Outer quote mark Racked the week prior to my visit, the 2020 Bourgogne Rouge is a one-third blend of Hautes-Côtes, Puligny and Maranges-based parcels. It offers vivid red cherry and cranberry scents on the nose. The palate is quite crunchy in texture, in a positive way, and well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Touches of orange zest appear toward the finish. Very promising. (NM) Inner quote mark (12/2021)
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "20% whole bunch vinification has been used. Deep purple black, surprisingly little nose. Juicy pure red fruit, classic rather than hot vintage fruit in the mouth and impressively concentrated, firmer structure than in 2019. Really long finish. I am rather impressed by this. Tasted: December 2021."
93-95 points Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a crisp, precise, gunflint-tinged bouquet that is beautifully defined and focused. The palate is very well balanced with a wonderful line of acidity. The judicious new oak (under 20%) just lends a little weight toward the finish. This is all about the tension and energy. A ridiculously good Les Referts from Domaine Bachelet-Monnot. (NM) Inner quote mark (12/2021)
90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound
Outer quote mark This too is firmly reduced and impossible to aromatically assess in this condition. There is both more volume and mid-palate density to the seductively textured and very punchy flavors that possess a sleek mouthfeel on the focused, long and beautifully well-balanced finale. This Clos du Cromin is good, but this is clearly at another level. Inner quote mark (6/2022)
91-94pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Pale lemon colour. A smoky reduction which is far from unpleasant. The fruit starts to come out, indeed offering excellent depth of fruit, some yellow plums but still fresh, plenty of weight behind and good length. Tasted: December 2021."
90-92 points Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a well-defined nose of light honeysuckle and lime flower aromas, quite strict and mineral-driven. The palate is more expressive at the moment, with ample tension. Just the right amount of bitter lemon lends edginess on the finish. This has a bit of swagger, though it needs 3–4 years for the bouquet to really open. Very fine. (NM) Inner quote mark (10/2021)
89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound
Outer quote mark (from Les Meix, Houlières, Corvée des Vignes and Le Noyer Bret). A markedly more floralsuffused nose offers up notes of fresh white orchard fruit and subtle spice wisps. The delicious, racy and finer medium-bodied flavors possess slightly better depth along with much better persistence. Worth considering. *Outstanding* Inner quote mark (6/2022)
91-94 points, 5 stars, Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "Pale lemon colour. This has a beautifully perfumed nose, floral in a way that too many no longer are. The Bachelet-Monnot 2020 Puligny has exquisite balance, finishing on the pure minerality. A near perfect example, the balance is impeccable and so is the persistence." (12/2021)

Allen Meadows - Burghound
Outer quote mark Smoky aromas of citrus and green apple introduce bright, racy and detailed middle weight flavors that possess fine depth and persistence on the clean and dry finale. This is lovely and a Bourgogne that will age. *Burghound Outstanding!* Inner quote mark (6/2022)
Vinous
Outer quote mark The 2020 Bourgogne Blanc had been racked just a couple of months prior to my visit. It feels a little withdrawn on the nose, lacking the "spark" of the red for the moment. The palate is taut and fresh, displaying fine definition, notes of grapefruit, lime and pear, and a slightly waxy finish. Fine – just give it time for the aromatics to open. (NM) Inner quote mark (12/2021)
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "The vines are situated below Puligny for the most part. Pale lemon colour. A bit of bacon fat lends a phenolic aspect. Tighter and plenty of weight. Very good length. Not quite in place yet but promising. Tasted: December 2021."
2018 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot • Bourgogne Rouge
The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge, which contains 15% whole bunch, comes partly from Hautes Cotes de Beaune and partly from Maranges itself. It has a very pretty bouquet of red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is fresh on the entry with crunchy red berry fruit andgood acidity. A little rustic and short but shows good vigor. 85-87 NM
