The 2018 Cuvee aux Antipodes Pinot Noir represented the earliest ever harvest. “It's the only time we've picked everything by the end of March, and the only time we picked the Home Vineyard in March,” says Winemaker Paul Pujol. “There was a month difference in picking dates up here on this vineyard between 2017 and 2018—same vines.”
On the nose, the wine is composed and restrained, with perfect integration of fruit and tannin in the mouth. There is literally no point at which the tannins “begin,” and certainly they trail long into the finish. The fruit is the loom upon which the tannins are woven, and the picture at the end is one of harmony. It is a seamless wine built for pleasure, with a cascade of clove spice, red fruits, arnica/star anise/fennel, dried herbs and saline acidity that slowly fades into the far distance. What a wine! 14% alcohol, sealed under Diam.
